Lost At Sea . . . With A Cooler Lid

Roger Washington and his friend, Robert Lewis Moore, held onto the lid of a cooler after their fishing boat sank off the coast of Florida on Tuesday. A shark circled them twice. Washington held onto his dying friend, who who apparently had a heart attack, for about 45 minutes until he couldn't hold on any longer.

For five hours, Washington floated alone, with the coastline in view. Two boats went by, but neither stopped to help. He said the people on board waved at him but must have thought he was an illegal immigrant. Later, another shark, a hammerhead, came within 5 feet of striking him. Finally another fishing boat rescued him.

The body of his friend washed ashore Thursday.
