Winter, a 10-month-old bottlenose dolphin that lost her tail in crab trap, may be getting a new one. Clearwater Marine Aquarium is hoping to raise about $100,000 to help pay for a rare operation so Winter can get an artificial tail. She's learned to swim and play without her tail but instead of swimming up and down like a regular dolphin, she swims from side to side like a shark.

Irwin's Freak Accident Caught On Film

Videotape of the moment Steve Irwin was hit by a stingray's tail shows Irwin pulling the barb from his chest. He was following the stingray in shallow water when it must've felt threatened... it's tail came up and spiked him in the chest... he pulled it out and the next minute, he was gone. Apparently, his heart was pierced, and he died almost immediately. The footage of the tragedy will most likely never be shown to the public. R.I.P. Steve.

A surfer was attacked by a shark on the Oregon coast Tuesday night. Tom Larson was surfing with friends at the south jetty in Florence when he felt a shark pull him off his board and bite into his foot. Ouch! He beat the shark with his surf board until it let go, and then paddled to shore. He said it felt like a bear trap. It took 35 stitches to sew up the eight holes the shark left in his foot.

In 1987, Bubba arrived at the Shedd in a bucket with a note asking the aquarium to care of the little grouper because he was getting too big for his fish tank. Bubba was placed in the Wild Reef shark habitat and grew to a whopping 154 pounds. He was living the good life as a kept fish until 2001, when things took a downward turn for the grouper. He got a bacterial infection that antibiotics failed to treat. Bubba became the first fish to ever receive chemotherapy. Bubba died Tuesday ay the age of 24 due to natural causes.

When he saw a companion on his boat hook a giant fish during a sea angling contest, Ian Card was delighted until he watched the 14ft blue marlin leap out of the water across the boat and spear him through the chest! The 800lb fish knocked him overboard into the Atlantic and dragged him underwater. He somehow stayed conscious and struggled to pull himself free of the marlin's 3ft razor-sharp spike and was rescued by his shipmates.

A six-year-old boy said he doesn't want to see dolphins anymore after being bitten by one at SeaWorld Orlando. The boy's mother said that while visiting the dolphin-petting attraction Sunday night, the dolphin grabbed Brandon Jackson's left arm! She had to hit the dolphin's snout until it let go of the boy's arm. A SeaWorld spokeswoman said the dolphin would be watched and might be retrained in a "behavioral-modification" program. The family was given a private dolphin viewing and four tickets for a return visit. Like they really wanna go back...

A South African lifeguard survived a close encounter with a giant shark that attacked his jetski on Friday. Lyle, 19, felt himself and his ski being lifted out of the water and then heard a loud sound like a car smashing against something, before he realized that a shark had taken a large bite out of the rear end of his jetski. He turned around and saw the shark's huge jaws wrapped around the back of his jetski! He fell off the jetski and luckily, a friend scooped him up and saved him.

Just a week after being caught at Buffalo Springs Lake in Texas, "Scotty the Pacu" has died. The freaky fish with human-looking teeth is native to the Amazon area of South America. Lake officials believe the fish was dumped in the lake because it grew too large for a tank. Other pacus have started popping up in other lakes across the country, the latest being found in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The ransom for the remaining pacu is $100.

Portuguese man-of-war are invading Rhode Island beaches. Apparently, Several people have been stung in the past few days at beaches in the area. This time, it was an 18-year-old girl who was stung at Misquamicut State Beach. The girl was taken to Westerly Hospital. Man-of-wars deliver a painful sting that can cause temporary paralysis and require medical attention. Beachgoers who want to go into the water are being told to go no deeper than their waists. I say just stay on the sand.

This thing washed up on an Oregon beach the other day. At nearly six feet long, this King-of-the-Salmon is a member of the Ribbonfish family normally found 1,600 below the surface of the ocean, from Alaska to Baja and along the coast of Chile. The fish is currently frozen at the Seaside Aquarium.

A 14-year-old surfer got a bite on the foot by a shark at guess where... New Smyrna Beach! How many does that make now? And why do people still swim there?? Apparently, he was surfing in knee-deep water when he felt something grab him about 1:45 p.m. Tuesday. He was treated at the scene and left the beach with his mother.

A fisherman is recovering from surgery after he was speared in the chest and knocked into the Atlantic Ocean by a 14 ft blue marlin during a fishing competition off Bermuda's coast on Saturday. The dude had just hooked the fish when it suddenly leapt out of the water, speared him just below his collar bone and knocked him into the ocean. Dang!

To promote Shark Week, airing July 30 - August 4, Discovery Channel has hung a 446 foot long inflatable shark atop its Silver Spring, MD building. They're calling it the biggest Shark Week stunt ever. To accompany the inflatable, street teams with pun-filled names like Bight University Chewleaders, will roam the streets of New York. A team of surfers with surf boards will wander about apparently to create intrigue.

Olympic Swimmer Attacked By Shark

Five-time Olympic swimming champion Gary Hall and his sister, Bebe were attacked by a shark off the Florida coast while spear fishing a ouple weeks ago. The 35-year-old swimmer kicked and punched the shark while his 28-year-old sister shot it in the mouth with a spear gun. Gary was fine but his Bebe needed 19 stitches for a bite she got on the arm.

A 16-year-old being dragged into a Central Florida lake by an 11-foot alligator used a tip he watched on a Discovery Channel show to break free and save his life. Corey Workman was throwing rocks and sticks into the St. John's River in Volusia County, FL on Saturday, when an alligator jumped out of the water, grabbed his left foot and dragged him into the lake. He remembered that you should stick your thumb in the gator's eye (that's their most sensitive part) so he did, and it let him go!

Dallas Jackson will return to his Ohio home this week with a souvenir that most Hilton Head Island visitors would rather do without. The Ohio resident was supposedly bitten by a shark while he was standing in waist-deep water at Singleton Beach on Monday, requiring about a dozen stitches on his leg above his ankle. Authorities have not confirmed the attack, but Jackson said the teeth marks and puncture wounds on his foot and ankle are all the confirmation he needs.
